In, "A Time to Kill," why does Hailey choose Jake Brigance to be his lawyer instead of the NAACP lawyers?

I'm doing a report for school on the movie, and I've already returned the movie. This is an essential part of what I'm writing about, and I don't remember why Carl Lee Hailey, the little girl's dad, played by Samuel L. Jackson, opts to shun the NAACP's offer to defend him in court, and chooses Matthew McConaughey's character, Jake Brigance to be his lawyer instead. Anyone know the movie super well?

He trusts Jake. Jake was with him in the beginning when no one else was. Also they have known each other for awhile, Jake helped out Carl Lee's brother when he got in trouble a few years before.
Also, and perhaps most importantly, Carl Lee explains to Jake while they sit in his jail cell, that Carl needs Jake to be his lawyer because Jake, despite his liberal status, is just like the trial jury of Carl's suppossed "peers." He is a white, Southern man, just like most of the jury, so Jake must know exactly what to say in order to convince the jury of Carl Lee's innocence. Because of this Jake knew he had to present the rape of the daughter in such an unbiased, emotional way that the juror could see it and understand without the placement of race on the events and outcome.

does matthew mcconaughey annoy anyone else?

so i was watching the lincoln lawyer and i wasn't able to even watch it all because of matthew's acting. it just really annoys me. ESPECIALLY the way he talks and it occured to me that he acts the SAME in every movie he does.

if he didnt look the way he did, theres no way he'd get any jobs. (and hes not even cute to me)
you could have just said "yes! or no!"

Yes he does. I find him to be arrogant and full of himself on screen and off. He is a putz.
