Donald asks…

New Orleans weather in December?

im going to New Orleans December 12th, I have never been
I know its humid there in summer, im in Ca and our temps are aveage 64 in December (no humidity) looks like 65 to 70 is average for NO too
but is it humid at all that time a year? im hoping no! I just need to know what I should pack. oh and if its humid my hair will go all curly!

admin answers:

The first answer is correct and you should pack for cool (not cold) weather. Do check the forecast the day before you leave home to make any packing adjustments necessary.

New Orleans is humid all year long, though it's not as bad during the winter.

Hope you have a good trip!

Robert asks…

New Orleans in December, weather?

what's the weather like generally in Mid December?
Im planning a trip from the 9th to the 16th.
Ive never been there and curious what to kinda expect that time of year.
anyone live there that can help?

admin answers:

Mid-December weather in New Orleans is not predicatable. It could be cool, or quite warm. I recall many Christmas days with a high temp of 70F.

However, the weather is unlikely to be very cold. You will be fine if you pack short and long sleeve shirts, a sweater or two, and a light jacket.

Check the weather the day before leaving home and make any needed revisions.

Hope you have a great time!

Mark asks…

New Orleans Residents, whats the weather like in New Orleans during the end of December?

I am getting married December 18th and just curious what the weather is usually like during that time of year. rainy or not??? in Florida it rained constantly but I was in Tampa.

Thanks so much, I cant wait!
Thank you very much for the congrats!

admin answers:

I'm home for Christmas every year. It will most likely be cool, anywhere from 45 - 70 degrees. It has been known to be much colder and with the high humidity, 45 degrees can feel like 30. It rarely freezes. All in all, it's a great time to get married there. It's much too hot in the late spring and summer.

Enjoy!

John asks…

Senior going to New Orleans first week December, what Hotel, what to see, what to do?

Would like to See New Orleans. Senior planning trip first week of December. What is weather like, what to see (museums, tourist attractions, tours), what to eat, nightime entertainment. Heres the catch. It has to be on the CHEAP. Need advice to save money. I travel on a limited budget.
What is a cheap hotel that is within walking distance to attractions? I need suggestions. HELP!

admin answers:

Easily write for hours on this one - favorite city...
Haven't been since the hurricane - been the longest I've been away in 15 yrs...
I'll give general locations - but ask anyone local - they will point you in the direction....

MUST (food & some other stuff): I'll list a few...

Cafe du Monde (accross from jackson sqr) Ben-yais (no idea how to spell it) and cafe au lait - MUST - you'll end up here alot - its open 24hrs (used to be at least)

Central Grocery (right by jackson sqr) - split a half mufaletta (its huge).

Mother's (not far from harrahs - two blocks away from canal and a block away from the river) - GREAT FOOD

End of bourbon you'll find the blacksmith shop - now a bar (I think the oldest in america).

On the edge of the quarter is a graveyard (walking distance - daytime) - go see it.

Acme oyster - block off of canal and 1/2 block off bourbon in the quarter - historical and a must for some oysters or mudbugs.

Columns Hotel - cool place - take the st. Charles street car out there from the quarter.

As to the cheap hotel - try to get something off the St. Charles Line (street car) assuming its still running.

Have fun and be safe.

Nancy asks…

Is it a good time to go to New Orleans in early December?

I am thinking about taking a tour to New Orleans and Memphis in early December? What kind of weather should I expect? Is it worth going this time of year?

admin answers:

Yes, December is a good time. The weather can vary a lot-sometimes it can be very cold (in the 30's) and sometime it can be just mildly cold (50's or 60's). Once Halloween starts, New Orleans is in party season mode, so, while its not mardi gras time, there is usually alot of great stuff going on for the christmas season.
